Drug Education To Encourage Responsibility

The DETER Program is an interactive education and information workshop which is presented by trained professionals and offers additional information as an adjunct to current harm minimization approaches.

This Program has been presented to over 1000 high school students in South Australia with the main objective being to ensure that youth are made aware of the long term side effects of mind altering substances.

Topics discussed:

  • Physiology of Addiction - The effects of mind altering substances on the Central Nervous System.

  • Social Impact on the individual using drugs - Breakdown of familial relationships.

  • Impact on health and well-being - the Physical, Psychological & Emotional side effects.

  • The Recovery Process of Addiction - Living life free of drugs requires a life-long commitment.

Recovered addicts who have completed all levels of the DrugBeat of SA Program assist facilitators by sharing their personal stories of drug related trauma and answering questions from students to assist them to face the hard realities of life as a drug user.
